2024 is coming to an end very soon! How did you do this year in terms of fulfilling your 2024 New Year resolutions? While reflecting your 2024, what do you want to change in the new year? It’s easy to think big and start a new project with enthusiasm to change for the better, but staying motivated through ups and downs are relatively challenging. So what can we do when motivation starts to wobble?
Here are my 5 effective strategies to achieve any New Year resolution:
1.Make a plan using strategic methods and keep track of all the big and small wins for reflection and celebrations.
It’s exciting to kick start a new project such as New Year resolution, but to keep up your motivation to execute the project requires a high level of focus. Excitement won’t last long enough to keep you motivated through ups and downs. You will need to create a plan with specific attainable action steps to guide you through the journey.
One strategic way to plan is to break down the journey into smaller stages in order to make it easier to follow through. Here I recommend to use a 52-weekly guided journal to keep track of all the details, as well as, keeping all the positive feedbacks and milestones for celebrations.
2.Establish new routine to form a new pattern of behaviour, make a list of benefits of establishing new routine, make a time management plan, take action and reflect on why forming a new routine by writing your answers down. This will develop a sense of value in your actions and motivate you to keep going.
3.Stay focused through a specific action plan that includes all the details on how to accomplish your goals along the journey.
Make plan to keep track of progress can guide your mind to stay focus on tasks. Each time you accomplish one task, remember to check of the task on the list. This will bring a sense of accomplishment which sparkle more motivation to keep moving on.
4.Maintain a positive flow of mental energy by accepting your emotion and tell yourself that you are a human.
Positivity can fade sometimes if you find yourself uninspired to keep going. If you encounter moments of doubt, frustration or negative feedbacks, do yourself a favour to pause. Go outside and find a distracting activity to participate, give your mind a refresh button to press whenever you need to.Practice mindfulness through acknowledging your feelings and thoughts are vital to maintain your positivity for the long-term.
5.Reward yourself through celebrating big and small wins along the journey. You will rediscover your motivation through cheering for your accomplishments.
The main goal of breaking the plan into smaller stages is to make the journey more enjoyable each time you celebrate the small wins. This strategy is essential to help maintain motivation.
Through your weekly journey reflection, you can list a few things you have accomplished which are worthy to celebrate. For example, I meet the water drinking goal of 2ml per day for the whole week, so I deserve to treat myself a martini cocktail.
I have been practising all these 5 strategies in achieving my 2024 New Year resolution throughout the months of the year and I have never been happier with what I have accomplished.
